How NextGen works, and how it can work for you!

Career Exploration
Through a series of classes, get a sense of which specialized career path speaks to you. Explore one or several tracks before you start Career Bridges.

Mentorship
Participants will have opportunities to be placed with a mentor, who will provide guidance and insight from various work sectors, in line with your ambitions and interests.

Work Readiness
Getting a job is one thing. Keeping it is the critical next step. The skills to do so are as important as the technical skills needed to perform in the workplace.

Home Forward will work with you to ensure your success and ability to thrive in NextGen. We can help with class fees, books, tutoring, transportation, and more!

    With NextGen, all participants gain professional work experience in four in-demand fields:

    Construction

    11 week* pre-apprenticeship training with paid stipend, college credit, and real worksite experience. From small, family-owned companies to large corporations and government employers, there are hundreds of job categories in this industry.

    8 week* preparation for entry to the healthcare field, acquiring professional certifications, and assistance with job placement. Healthcare workers are in high demand, with hundreds of well-paid positions to choose from; many don’t require a college degree.

    8 week* classroom training on tech curriculum geared toward industry certifications and job placement. As the world becomes more and more dependent on technology, the industry continues to change and grow.

    21st Century Skills

    NextGen offers fun group workshops on proven major strengths and skills that will help you succeed in school, career, and well into the future:

    Education

    A high school-level education improves your chances of getting hired, and increases your earning potential. GED or high school equivalency also offers you the benefit of more opportunities to continue your education. With employers seeking higher educational requirements, college is increasingly advantageous. NextGen can help you find courses related to your career interests, get relevant certifications, and even earn degrees! All of these educational pathways show employers your commitment to ongoing development, and make you marketable.

    Eligibility and How to Participate

    1. If you are a currently enrolled student, you must be age 17-21. If you’re not in school, you must be age 17-24.
    2. You must live in Home Forward housing or be a Section 8 participant.
    3. The quickest way to find out if you are eligible, about all information, and upcoming orientation sessions, is to call the NextGen Coordinator and talk.
